Job description

We are looking for internship supervisors for our Bachelor and Master students who (through ways of digital communication) can supervise our students as they research topics surrounding science and society. You are available from the month February - June (with a possible extension until July/August), for a half day to two days a week. Depending on your expertise and FTE-availability you will supervise students from one or more of the following courses:
  • Bachelor in Health and Life Sciences (you will guide students through the different phases of research: theoretical preparation, literature review, practical activities (such as data collection), statistical analyses, writing a report and holding an oral presentation.

Your tasks
  • Academically guiding students through the internship process by setting up weekly meetings (supporting the student in choosing the theoretical framework, methodology, data analysis, etc.).
  • Accommodate student feedback sessions.
  • Attending VU supervisor meetings to ensure smooth supervision and to support each other.
  • Provide feedback on internship reports.
  • Mark reports, articles and presentations.
  • Maintaining contact with the supervisors at the place of internship.

Requirements

  • A PhD, preferably related to the health and/or life sciences.
  • An affinity with and/or knowledge of systems: participatory research, inter- and/or transdisciplinarity, multi-stakeholder processes.
  • Affinity with and/or knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Able to supervise Literature Reviews and internships of students.
  • Fluent Dutch writing and speaking skills (For Bachelor programs) and English (for Bachelor and Master programs).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 3 months.

The reimbursement for supervising a Master's student is € 1.200,- per student (24 hours at 50,- during the February - July/August period) and for a Bachelor student it's € 600,- per student (12 hours at 50,- during the March - May period). This rate includes an additional commitment as a second assessor for an internship report for a student that you do not supervise yourself. If you choose to assess more reports, this will be rewarded at 150,- per report. If you are unable to carry out your commitment as a second assessor, the rate for supervising a student will be € 1.050,- per student (Master) and € 450,- per student (Bachelor). In addition to this, 50,- can be claimed for any attended (and organized by VU) intervention with other internship supervisors.

All fees are exempt from VAT.

For current employees at VU there is a possibility to extend the existing appointment to the above mentioned period. Remuneration will then come in at a minimum scale of 10-5 (€ 3.491,- based on 1 fte) and a maximum scale of 10-12 (€ 4.402,- based on 1 fte), depending on the current salary scale. The position is classified according to UFO-profile: Researcher 4.
