Job description

Our Molecular Cardiology lablocated within the Hubrecht Institute in Utrecht is looking for motivated and passionate applicants for the position of in vivo technician to model and investigate different types of heart disease. The technician will be part of a translational research team investigating molecular mechanisms that are relevant for disease progression. As such we perform studies on both surgical and genetic models of heart disease. The candidate will be asked to support, handle and analyse our in vivo experiments in mice. The experiments involve a wide range of techniques, including genotyping, animal handling, surgical procedures, functional measurements and data processing. The technician will additionally help us to ensure we adhere to all regulatory requirements.

The applicant will be part of a vibrant, international, motivated and collaborative team having access to the highly interactive and cross-disciplinary research environmentof the Hubrecht Institute with great collaborative opportunities with the Department of Cardiology at the UMC Utrecht.

Requirements

  • You should have a strong background in animal handling, maintaining an animal colony, and organizing and overseeing large in vivo studies.
  • Work experience with micro-surgeries.
  • Preferably work experience with cardiac research.
  • Independent, strong social skills and the ability to work in a team.
  • Affinity with molecular biology is a pre.
  • Good in spoken and written English.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • You are self-motivated and a creative thinker

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

Terms of employment
Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is € 2.471,- and the maximum salary is € 3.336,- gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 7 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.

For example, by working an extra two hours a week, it is possible to increase the number of days off from 29 to 41 days a year (with full-time employment).
