Within the Department of Chemistry and the Research Support Office (RSO) of the Faculty of Science, we are looking for a research manager to support our distinguished University Professor ‘Catalysis, Energy & Sustainability’ Bert Weckhuysen. As the position is new in our department, it offers plenty of room for your own input.

As Research Manager you will support and advise Professor Bert Weckhuysen on all aspects of the management of the Inorganic Chemistry and Catalysis (ICC) group. You are jointly responsible for realizing the ambitions of the research group and the other scientific staff of the ICC group. You will be employed in the RSO of the Faculty of Science and will work closely together with the other support staff of the ICC group. The RSO supports researchers in finding external funding for their research and in collaborating with third parties, including companies and governmental organisations within the Netherlands and beyond. 

The range of tasks is diverse and always evolving, but amongst others you will:

• Critically examine reports and policy documents and gather and interpret information for meetings;
• Identify research funding opportunities in the Netherlands, the EU, and beyond and advise about suitable collaboration partners, especially with industry and governmental organisations, or other societal partners;
• Provide feedback on research applications and research plans;
• Negotiate contracts and collaboration agreements with industry, other universities and societal partners;
• Provide support with the reporting of the results from the research projects to the funding organizations;
• Represent Professor Bert Weckhuysen or his research group at research application and project meetings.

• A position for one year, with the prospect of permanent employment (following a performance review).
• A full-time gross salary in scale 10 or 11 (depending on experience, ranging from a minimum of € 2960,- to a maximum of € 5439,-).
• 8% holiday bonus and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
• A pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible employment conditions based on the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

The Inorganic Chemistry and Catalysis group of the Department of Chemistry at Utrecht University is devoted to the design, synthesis, and characterization of solid catalysts. These catalyst materials are then applied in various applications, including the conversion of renewable feedstock into fuels, chemicals and materials, the conversion of environmentally harmful chemicals into benign compounds, the catalytic activation of CO2, and the valorisation of agricultural and municipal waste, including plastic waste.

The Department of Chemistry in Utrecht covers the whole range of chemistry, with a research focus on Catalysis, Colloids and Structural Biology. We use our skills to seek answers to today's great challenges in sustainability, nanomaterials, and molecular life sciences. The Research and Valorisation Policy Department consists of policy officers, project managers and the grant officers of the Research Support Office (RSO).
