Job description

We are looking for an experienced Software Developer for an exciting pilot on IRODS implementation for Research Data Management at the Delft University of Technology. 

Research Data Management (RDM) is vital part of scientific research and includes the way research data is managed from creation to the publication and preservation. ICT Innovation group is working on the automation and simplification of those processes to ensure that data is managed in accordance with the FAIR principles, so it is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable.

To tackle these challenges, the Open Science Programme at TU Delft has allocated funds to hire three colleagues to pilot the implementation of iRODS at TU Delft.

As a Software Developer you will be actively involved in design, development and implementation of the open source IRODS RDM pilot with ManGO platform (provided by KU LEUVEN) for TU Delft. You will work together with the researchers and ICT colleagues from TU Delft and beyond advising and assisting them in the practical implementation of data management processes.

Requirements

Ideal Candidate possess: 

  • Master's degree in a field of study with a strong focus on IT (Information technology, computer science etc) or equivalent knowledge through experience
  • Proven expertise with software development for research domain
  • Proficiency with Python / C++
  • Knowledge of or experience with research data management and IRODS
  • Experience with GIT and automated software deployments (CI/CD)
  • Command line, Unix/Linux, Docker, shell scripting skills;
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Curiosity, creativity and open mind
  • Proactive and self-organized professional who can work independently
  • Team player who works result-oriented with a sense of order and quality
  • Excellent English skills;

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

  • Duration of contract is 1 year.
  • A job of 36-40 hours per week.
  • A salary based on scale 11 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a minimum of €3.974,- and a maximum of €5.439,- gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.

University Corporate Office - ICT

Information and Communication Technology comprise a number of departments. Project Management Services focuses on projects with a large ICT component. Information Management translates the information needs of the various work, education, research and valorisation processes into a balanced information supply. Security & Privacy deals with information security and the correct implementation and execution of GDPR legislation at TU Delft. And Architecture establishes and monitors the coherent structure of the information provision.

The ICT Shared Service Centre handles services related to the continuity and optimisation of the existing information provision, while R&D/Innovation is concerned with the development of new technologies for the purpose of creating promising tools for education and research.
