The Department of Mathematics of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam welcomes applications for a fully-funded, 4-year PhD position in Forensic Probability and Statistics. You will work as a PhD student under supervision of Prof. dr. Ronald Meester. You will be involved in (probably) several projects, ranging from developing probabilistic and statistical machinery with an eye towards forensic applications, to applying such mathematics to concrete forensic and/or legal problems. There will be interaction with the Netherlands Forensic Institute and/or the Faculty of Law. The department forms an inclusive, interdisciplinary group, and diversity and internationalism is at the heart of our research principles, as well as our teaching practice.
The preferred starting date is 1 September 2023 or earlier.

Your duties
- doing research towards writing a PhD thesis
- teaching tasks (roughly 15% of your time), for instance supervising exercise classes and correcting homework
