The (ESA) group offers an exciting lecturer position. Starting date for this 2 year position is March/April 2023. The new lecturer will teach, supervise groups and support developing ESA's education.

Our group plays a key role in the study programmes 'Environmental Sciences', 'Urban Environmental Management' and 'Climate Studies'. We teach and study environmental problems by exploring, modelling and communicating their causes, mechanisms, effects and potential solutions. Quantitative, qualitative and multi-, and transdisciplinary approaches are combined, and knowledge from natural, social and engineering sciences is integrated. We take a system-analysis approach and develop and apply tools for analysing socio-ecological environmental problems. We currently identify two research lines: Pollution & Nutrients (e.g., causes and impacts of pollution, climate change and nutrient fluxes) and Ecosystem Services & Biodiversity (e.g., quantification and valuation of ecosystem functions and services). Uncertainties, integrating dimensions and scales, and policy relevance are always explicitly addressed.

The lecturer will engage in coordinating and teaching ESA's BSc and/or MSc courses, and supervise BSc and MSc thesis students. To complement and strengthen our team, we like to hire a candidate who has experience with challenge-based or project-based education, supervising international students and multidisciplinary groups, and developing and improving courses and exams. Our ideal candidate combines a background in environmental science and a passion for innovative teaching and learning methods.

• an MSc and preferably a PhD related to environmental sciences, climate studies and/or urban environmental management;
• some experience with teaching on environmental problems;
• ambition to develop educational skills;
• ability to connect with international students from different backgrounds;
• willingness to acquire the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) (in Dutch referred to as BKO), a system adopted by all Dutch universities;
• strong communicative and interpersonal skills and a flexible and collaborative attitude;
• For this position your command of the English language is expected to be at C1 level and we expect candidates to be willing to learn Dutch
