Job description

We are looking for a postdoc bioinformatics who wants to work in a challenging environment, characterized by inter-disciplinary research and innovation, high dynamics, and a patient-oriented drive. Will you join our ambitious team?

Inherited metabolic disorders are severe diseases that often present in young children. Although limited, an increasing number of therapeutic strategies is coming available:
  • To monitor the effect of treatment, we develop omics-based biomarkers in patient blood cells and plasma.
  • To better judge the added value of such data for the patient, bioinformatics approaches are important for data interpretation.
You will perform research on data processing and analysis of mass spectrometry-based omics data coming from metabolomics and glycoproteomics measurements. This includes workflow implementation, chemometric analysis and generation of a prototype reference patient database. The work is performed together with laboratory specialists, laboratory technicians and a senior bio-informatician.

Requirements

We are looking for a highly talented, motivated and enthusiastic bioinformatician with a keen interest in translating scientific knowledge into applied research. You are a t eam player with good communicational skills. You are pro-active and eager to learn new things and develop yourself. You also have the ability for independent and critical thinking.

Further more you have:
  • A PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related discipline.
  • Experience with Bioinformatics and large data analysis.
  • Experience with multi-omics projects, preferably mass spectrometry based such as metabolomics or proteomics.
  • Strong chemometric data analysis skills.
  • Strong programming skills (Python, R).

The Department of Human Genetics is one of the largest and most innovative human genetics departments in Europe. We currently employ more than 400 people, who work in three divisions, Genome Research, Genome Diagnostics, and Clinical Genetics. Challenges lie in the translation of big data to a clinically valuable results for individual patients.
