Job description

Do you have experience as a lecturer in interdisciplinary tourism, enjoy collaboration and crossing disciplinary and societal boundaries? The Cultural Geography Group (GEO) at Wageningen University is looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic candidate like you to teach in their interdisciplinary tourism program.

The primary tasks (70-85%) concern the coordination and teaching of foundational (BTO) and advanced (MTO) tourism courses, next to supervision/examination of student projects at BSc, MSc and PhD level. You are invited to improve and renew courses in collaboration with colleagues at GEO and other chair groups at Wageningen University.

The research focus of the Cultural Geography is on social theory in all its spatial articulations. The group advances creative, critical-constructive scholarship through exploring the ecological and social challenges facing all life on earth. In researching space, place and culture and through engaging with current, historic and future dynamics of socio-ecological systems globally, the group pays special attention to questions of inequality, exclusion, mobility, plurality. Thereby the group translates knowledge into practical action in four closely related fields of application. These are: health & care, tourism, nature and landscape. We apply our knowledge and methodologies in a variety of interdisciplinary educational tracks for empowerment and hope in uncertain times.

Researchers with GEO engage with the spatially and culturally situated character of many of Wageningen University and Research's core themes: environment, development, and well-being. Interdisciplinarity is appreciated, as GEO comprises scholars with backgrounds in human geography, sociology, anthropology, archaeology, social psychology, gender studies and science and technology studies. We are international in terms of staff and student composition, research foci and publication record, with our empirical work taking us to East and Southern Africa; South America; Central, West and South-East Asia; Western and South-Eastern Europe and, of course, the Netherlands.

This position is for 0.8 Fte.
