Job description
The CWI Cryptology group in Amsterdam and the Mathematical Institute of Leiden University offer a joint PhD position on the topic of Quantum-Safe Cryptanalysis. The goal is to advance the state of the art in quantum-safe cryptanalysis for the schemes that are currently being standardized. This ranges from improving our understanding in the fundamental computational problems underlying these important quantum-safe schemes, to improving the state of the art in cryptanalytic attacks, e.g., in more refined memory models.
The successful candidate will be working with Dr.Ir. Marc Stevens (CWI), Dr. Peter Bruin (Leiden) and Dr. Koen de Boer (Leiden).

Requirements

Candidates are required to have a master's degree in mathematics or in computer science.
Experience in one or more of these relevant background areas is an advantage: cryptography, algorithms, number theory, coding theory, and quantum algorithms. Some programming skills are expected.
Candidates are expected to have an excellent command of English.

Conditions of employment

The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Research Centres ("CAO-onderzoeksinstellingen"). The initial labour agreement will be for a period of 18 months. After a positive evaluation, the agreement will be extended by 30 months. The gross monthly salary, for a PhD student on a full time basis, is € 2,590 during the first year and increases to €3,318 over the four year period. Employees are also entitled to a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.33%. CWI offers attractive working conditions, including flexible scheduling and help with housing for expat employees.
