Do you have a passion for Instructional Design, Pedagogy or Education? Then we are looking for you. To strengthen the team and to keep up with our growth ambition, the team Open and Online is looking for an Instructional Designer who is interested in advising, designing, testing and checking educational materials for the online courses created by instructors at Wageningen University and Research.

Who are you?
As part of ESA, the Education Support Centre (ESC) aims at optimizing learning and teaching and at innovating education at our university. ESC seeks to inspire lecturers, to facilitate and support their teaching and the education environment and finally to enhance lecturers' professional teaching competences. The Education Support Centre employs over 80 staff members in 7 teams.

As part of the Education Support Centre (ESC), the Open and Online team is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of online-based courses. We aim to develop high quality educational content for life-long learning in line with the Wageningen mission "To explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life". Think of MOOCs and blended programs for professionals. This is done in close cooperation with researchers and teachers who are responsible for the content of those courses. Many of our courses are interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary, and we aspire to further develop our instructional support for such courses.

About the role
We are a self-organizing and multidisciplinary team. To strengthen the team and to keep up with the growing ambition for professional education, we are looking for an instructional designer. Your main tasks will be:
  • Advise, inspire and support course instructors on course design and instructional quality for interdisciplinary blended and online courses.
  • Help content matter experts make learning goals explicit and ensuring constructive alignment.
  • Design engaging online-based learning activities that work well.
  • Give feedback on educational materials, such as scripts, texts, quizzes and slides for knowledge clips.
In your role of instructional designer you'll be working in a team of other instructional designers, production managers, a technical expert, marketing advisors, multimedia professionals, and student assistants. In addition, you will work in collaboration with other teams within ESC, like the teams Educational Media and Online Learning Environment.

Requirements

  • A relevant MSc-degree in the field of instructional design, pedagogy, educational technology or similar;
  • A minimum of two but preferably five years of relevant work experience in advising and designing online and blended courses. Preferably in an academic setting;
  • Excellent communication and consultancy skills, enabling you to give well-founded advice to teachers and staff and to work in heterogeneous teams;
  • The ability to cope with deadlines;
  • Affinity with working agile;
  • Up-to-date knowledge of educational technology and online tools;
  • Preferably experience in developing online-based educational materials;
  • Passionate about professional education;
  • Excellent proficiency in English (C2).
In addition, you are assertive, solution oriented, a team player, creative and curious. You have affinity with the WUR domains of environment and life sciences.

Conditions of employment

Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) include:

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. The position concerns a working week of 0.8-1.0 fte (32-38 hours/week), with a one year contract. At this moment there is no guarantee the contract will be extended. Salary depends on educational background, training and work experience and is based on scale 10 or 11 according to the Collective Labour Agreement scale 10 ranges from €2.960,- gross per month to €5.439,- (based on full-time employment of 38 hours per week).
