Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is seeking an enthusiastic colleague for the position of assistant professor to join our interdisciplinary research team with a focus on the theme of Mental Disorders.

Job description

Interdisciplinary research team Mental Disorders
Care for people with mental disorders is under enormous pressure, causing unnecessary suffering and limitations in (social) participation. This is particularly relevant for people with severe mental disorders, who relapse more often and, therefore, make more frequent use of the already limited care. Tilburg University wants to invest in research on prevention and intervention with a life-course perspective. Therefore, our School invests in the research theme Mental Disorders

To further reinforce this, we are looking for an assistant professor, who will be embedded in the Tranzo Department. Tranzo, the scientific center for care and well-being, has as its mission to connect science and practice. By working in co-creation with structural collaboration partners (e.g., mental health institutions, Trimbos Institute, universities of applied sciences) on knowledge development and exchange, we aim to promote evidence-based working.

Within the Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (TSB) at Tilburg University, we strive to connect the expertise, experience, and related research networks of the research groups, in close collaboration with TSB's Herbert Simon Research Institute, to obtain interdisciplinary knowledge that will enhance the understanding of the well-being of individuals, teams, organizations, and society and their ability to adapt to a dynamic living and working environment. Our interdisciplinary research focuses on current topics in need of both basic and applied interdisciplinary research and combines knowledge and insights from a selective group of disciplines: cognitive and neuropsychology, developmental and forensic psychology, medical and clinical psychology, social psychology, health sciences, human resources management, organization & management, sociology, methodology and statistics, and data science.

As an assistant professor, you will develop your own research ideas and activities, appropriate within the Mental Disorders theme. Together with team members working on the same research theme, you will define the joint research program and develop a network within and outside the School and university (team science).

Providing education, educational development, and educational coordination are part of the job responsibilities. These include tasks such as providing education within existing Master’s tracks (Health, Wellbeing and Society), thesis supervision, and promoting, exploring, and developing a new range of courses. A Master's track in Social Work is currently being developed. You will be part of Tranzo’s education team. You will carry out your educational duties in consultation with the Head of Department.

Tasks
The position includes 50% research and 50% education.
Core duties include:

  • Independently developing research activities as a team member of the multidisciplinary School research team in the field of Mental Disorders, where the research can be called scientifically leading and innovative, with a clear societal relevance.
  • Publishing research results in high-quality (scientific) journals and professional magazines, nationally and internationally.
  • Supervision of research assistants, PhD researchers, and (junior or post-doctoral) researchers, and initiating and contributing to the acquisition of research funding.
  • Contributing to education, with, e.g., deployment as course coordinator, lecturing in lectures and seminars, as (co-)developer of courses and new courses offered, and as Master's thesis supervisor.
  • Participating in Departmental management tasks and School committees.
