The Groningen Centre of Energy Law and Sustainability (GCELS) brings together expertise from all branches of law within the Faculty of Law of the University of Groningen to develop cutting-edge research and educational programmes relevant to the energy transition. Its research covers the entire energy chain as well as the transitions necessary to move towards a more sustainable society. This includes all legislation and regulation applying to the production, transport, storage and supply of energy, the promotion of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, the need to secure energy supply, as well as climate action and environmental protection.

The Groningen Centre of Energy Law and Sustainability is searching for a Lecturer in Energy Law. As a lecturer, you will contribute to the teaching and research activities of the Centre, as well as its other activities. You are responsible for developing your own research specialization within the field of energy law and delivering educational content in energy law to students at LLB and LLM level and to students in the executive programmes of the Centre. You are expected to take a proactive, cooperative and independent role in the work of the Centre and contribute to relevant project meetings. Moreover, you are expected to contribute to the dissemination and valorisation of your work at the Centre.

We expect the candidate to have:

• completed or be close to completing a PhD in energy law
• ability to explain, analyse and apply the relevant international, European and national regulatory framework of energy law with a particular focus on the energy transition, competition law and/or IP law
• eagerness to publish international articles
• enthusiasm to work in an interdisciplinary research team
• demonstrable competencies regarding conceptual analysis, presentation, monitoring, planning and organization skills
• good social and communication skills
• excellent command of English and strong academic writing skills
• availability to travel internationally
• command of Dutch is considered an advantage
• in possession of a University Teaching Qualification or willingness to obtain this within two years.

Fixed-term contract: 38.

We offer you, following the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

• a salary, depending on qualifications and work experience, with a minimum of € 3,557 (salary scale 10.4) up to a maximum of € 6,181 (salary scale 12) gross per month for a 1.0 FTE position
• a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income and an 8.3% year-end bonus
• 232 holiday hours per calendar year for a 1.0 FTE position
• participation in a pension scheme for employees
• an appointment for an initial fixed term period of 18 months, with the possibility for a permanent appointment upon positive evaluation.excellent secondary terms of employment
