ALLEGRO project: AGILE ULTRA LOW ENERGY AND SECURE NETWORKS

HORIZON-CL4-2022-DIGITAL-EMERGING-01-39 - A Ultra low energy and secure networks (RIA)

ALLEGRO targets designing, prototyping, and demonstrating a novel end-to-end (E2E) solution for next-generation optical networks. ALLEGRO integrates packet-optical transport architecture satisfying four key pillars for next generation telecommunication systems: (i) ultra-high-capacity from access to the core; (ii) considerable reduction of power consumption and cost; (iii) autonomous network control management exploiting artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI/ML) for ultra-high-capacity multi-domain optical systems; and (iv) secured and reliable optical transmission.

Quantum Delta Eindhoven hub

TU/e hosts one of the five Quantum Delta NL major quantum hubs, collaborating on innovation by bringing together top-quality scientists, engineers, students, and entrepreneurs, working together on the frontier of quantum technology. One of the priorities in the Eindhoven Quantum hub is the implementation of quantum-enabling technologies and test-bed for its validation, test and certification. Its mission is to perform fundamental and applied research to push the boundaries of quantum devices, materials and technology development and to develop novel methods, applications and use cases to the benefit of society.

Job description

We are seeking a postdoctoral/senior researcher to join the teams of both ALLEGRO and Quantum Delta Hub Eindhoven, that will tackle the systems aspects, of deploying photonic integrated based solutions and miniaturized modules for quantum cryptography and authentication systems. The candidate has knowledge or able to fast learn about Quantum Key Distibution protocols and their implementation, test and validation.

The candidate will work in a team composed of postdoc researchers, assistant/associate professors, engineers, PhDs, and students. The candidate will interact with experts on photonic integration and QKD systems and with the team establishing the testbed for quantum secure communications and networking.

Responsibilities

You will be assigned to the Quantum and Terahertz Systems (QTS) laboratory, which is part of the ECO group, focusing on system-on-chip approaches for Terahertz and Quantum systems, using electronics, photonics and their co-integration. In the Quantum Delta Hub Eindhoven, the laboratory contributes to developing PIC based solutions for QKD systems, creating facilities for the characterization, test, and evaluation of quantum technologies, devices, sub-systems, and networking and its applications to edge, 5G and other use cases. These are used to further support the development and operations of the Eindhoven quantum hub.

You will therefore support the research activities of the group and its projects in the following areas:
  • Perform test & experiments as needed to support design optimization of QKD o chip systems
  • System-on-chip development using photonic, electronics and their co-integration
  • Integrated quantum photonic devices and sub-systems into classical telecom networks
  •  Design, simulation and final layout of devices and sub-systems such as Alice, Bob, Charlie and QRNG
  • Making sure proper design and interfacing for system test and evaluation

This is a full-time position located at TU/e, Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

The requested start of work as soon as possible thereafter.
