Job description

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is looking for a specialist (in training) in ruminant reproduction. The position can be filled at a senior level, where specialisation and/or promotion have been completed or at a junior level, where specialisation is part of the appointment.
The position at senior level includes 50% education and curriculum development and 50% clinically-driven applied research in the research programme ‘Fertility and Reproduction’ (F&R), leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals. At the junior level, it will be a combination of teaching and working towards specialisation.

As a Specialist (in training) in ruminant reproduction you are expected to actively contribute to the field of ruminant reproduction, specifically in reproductive management in dairy farms. You should be successful in attracting research funding and maintain a national and international network in science, industry and government.

Requirements

The successful applicant:
  • holds a recognized DVM Diploma and is registered as a diplomat of the European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR) or is willing to acquire the ECAR specialism or has, or is willing to apply for, a PhD degree in the field of Reproduction;
  • should be able to demonstrate a keen interest and experience in reproductive management on dairy farms including fertility, obstetrics and reproductive technologies;
  • is an independent thinker who is also an effective and constructive team player;
  • is expected to be an excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing; 
  • critically reflects on their own performance and has the ambition to continuously work on personal development.

Conditions of employment

We offer a temporary position (0.8 - 1.0 FTE) for one year in an international working environment. After positive evaluation, this can be turned into a permanent position. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between €2,960 and €6,181 (scale 10/12 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.

The salary depending on the position (junior/senior) will be: 
  • SiO's (Training medical specialist: scale 10);
  • UD (Assistant Professor: scale 11 of 12).

The applicant will be positioned in the Sustainable Ruminant Health (SRH) team within the division Farm Animal Health, Department of Population Health Sciences. The SRH team is a multidisciplinary team of academics and professionals aiming to promote sustainable ruminant health and welfare.
