“Supporting your academic goals.” That is what we do at Maastricht University Library. One of those goals is navigating through scientific information. By making (meta)data available in our (collection) systems as Linked (Open) Data, we contribute to increasing (technical) possibilities for using this data in scientific research and education and/or for sharing scientific information with a wider audience. As a Linked Data specialist, you ensure that we make Linked (Open) Data available in such a way that it is optimally tailored to the needs of users and you look for connections with various parties within and outside the UM community for whom this data can be of added value.

Your work focuses on:

• Creating a vision on Linked (Open) Data that fits well within UM, as well as within developments at other universities, (university) libraries and the heritage sector. You are responsible for developing a (technical) roadmap in consultation with your colleagues, in which sufficient attention is paid to both innovation and management.
• Connecting IT and business. Together with colleagues, you make the University Library collections accessible in the University Library systems in an efficient manner, for example by means of linked (open) data. You take into account both the needs of the University Library colleagues who enter the metadata and those who use the data in research, education or otherwise.
• Managing Omeka S. Omeka S(emantic) is an open-source web publishing platform. This includes (special) collections with a focus on linked (open) data. As a Linked Data specialist, you align the needs of users with the requirements and possibilities of this system. You also organise and facilitate consultations with key users, suppliers and users of Omeka S and other systems that support Linked (Open) Data and you translate the input obtained there into technical applications.
• Identifying possibilities for the application of Linked (Open) Data and anticipating on these. You participate in national networks in the field of Linked (Open) Data and maintain close contacts with faculties within UM and with relevant external partners, so that you can respond to their needs by developing and implementing technical solutions.
• Monitor and evaluate the use of our Linked (Open) Data. Initiate monitoring and, based on the analysis and evaluation, make data-driven decisions for the purpose of optimising processes and services and contribute to the technical realisation thereof.

We are looking for you if you are someone who can translate user needs into system applications. You have strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills. You can make connections between various systems, (meta)data formats and standards and you have a strong organisational sensitivity. You have an enthusiastic attitude to work, you can provide advice and make decisions. You like to work in a team, you can also work independently and you are result-oriented. You are a connector. You preferably have experience in managing projects.

Furthermore, you have:

• A master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
• A good command of the Dutch and English language and strong interpersonal skills;
• Basic knowledge of relevant (linked) metadata formats, exchange standards and platforms and (linked) data serialisation formats or the willingness and skills to acquire this knowledge in the foreseeable future;
• Affinity with working with ontologies and vocabularies;
• Knowledge of data transformation tooling (such as MarcEdit), exchange protocols (OAI-PMH) and working with APIs is a plus;
• Knowledge of SPARQL is a plus.

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

As a Linked Data specialist, you will work at the most international university in the Netherlands in the beautiful city of Maastricht. Furthermore, we offer you:

• An interesting and challenging job for 30.4 hours per week (0.8 FTE).
• A position that is classified in the UFO profile Consultant ICT. Depending on experience, you will be classified in scale 10 or 11 of the CAO NU (€2,960,- - €5,439,- gross per month, based on a full-time position of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
• Space and facilities to develop yourself: personally and in the latest technology. This partly takes place in-house, but also with external (online) partners.
• In addition to good primary employment conditions, there is also a nice package of secondary employment conditions. You can think of: flexible working hours, 232 holiday hours per year with a full-time appointment, a good pension scheme, the possibility of hybrid working (incl. facilitation of home office), the possibility to use sports facilities, and Collective Labour Agreement à la carte.
• Appointment will initially be temporary for a period of 1 year. After this period, the contract will be extended for an indefinite period of time (upon proven suitability).
