Job description

As a newly appointed assistant professor, you will be working in the section of Public Administration at the University of Twente. Besides your excellence as a researcher, your teaching skills are very important since you will have the opportunity to develop and teach courses in our BSc Management, Society & Technology (particularly in the European Studies specialization track) and the MSc European Studies programs. You will also supervise bachelor, master and PhD theses.

What are you going to do?

You are expected to:
  • develop your research profile, be active in the academic domain of European Governance and Politics, publish in international journals, and disseminate your research at leading conferences;
  • teach European Governance and Politics courses in BSc and MSc programs, including supervision of bachelor and master students;
  • take initiatives to attract external funding;
  • be open to collaborations with other institutes and public agencies and contribute to (joint) projects.

Requirements

  • You hold a PhD degree (or almost completed) on an EU-related subject;
  • You have a strong interest in the study of European Governance and Politics;
  • You are committed to achieve societal impact;
  • You have the ability and ambition to obtain external research grants;
  • You are preferably experienced with teaching at an internationally accredited university;
  • You possess a (equivalent of) University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) certificate, or are willing to obtain this, and have a real passion for, and the ambition to become a creative and inspiring lecturer in the field of European Governance and Politics;
  • You are a team player with good social skills;
  • You possess good communication skills and an excellent command of English (C2) and preferably also of the Dutch language (or the willingness to learn the Dutch language).
  • Ability and ambition to work closely with EU, and EU-related, agencies.

Conditions of employment

  • We offer a fulltime position (1.0 FTE) of 1 year with a probation time of 2 months and the prospect of a permanent position upon good performance.
  • The starting salary, depending on your experience, ranges between € 3.974 to € 6.181 gross per month (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), based on the job profile of Assistant Professor.
