Job description

Do you have broad knowledge and experience in the field of analytical chemistry? Do you recognize yourself in words as enthusiastic, creative and supportive? Do you have experience with techniques such as GC/MS, LC/MS, HRMS? Do you have a completed academic education (preferably PhD) in analytical chemistry? We are looking for you! We have a vacancy Senior Scientist Analytical Chemistry. Will you join us?

What are you going to do?
At Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR, part of Wageningen University & Research) we are concerned with a safe food chain for humans and animals. Of particular interest in our research is pollution by industrial chemicals such as pesticides, PFAS, micro- and nano-plastics and antibiotics. We analyse compounds such as naturally occurring toxins, heavy metals, food additives and radioactives. These and other environmental pollutants enter the food chain, and lead to undesired human and animal exposure. We want to further enhance our analytical capabilities. Therefore we are looking for a Senior Scientist Analytical Chemistry.

As Senior Scientist Analytical Chemistry you will:
  • Further develop a vision in the field of data processing;
  • Conduct method validations and application of the methods to food and other samples for human exposure assessment;
  • Coach and support technicians in the lab with the analytical hardware, sample analyses and data processing;
  • Manage projects and collaborate with technicians in the lab that conduct most of the analytical work;
  • Develop analytical methods, based on GC-MS(MS) and LC-MS(MS) in the field of analytical chemistry. Both targeted and untargeted approaches;
  • Develop and summarize research results together with colleagues into reports, scientific publications and presentations at meetings and conferences;
  • Further develop and disseminate the field of analytical chemistry and environmental contaminants, e.g. by participating in national and international working groups.
  • Acquire new projects by contributing to the writing of research proposals;

Requirements

  • You have a completed academic education (preferably with a PhD) in analytical chemistry;
  • You have at least 7 years of experience in analytical method development;
  • You have expertise in GC/MS, LC/MS and HRMS techniques
  • You’re conscious about quality of results you report;
  • You have a solid understanding of stakeholder management and can communicate with all stakeholders in- and outside of the organization;
  • You have a good oral and written command of the Dutch and English language at C1 level. If English-speaking, the willingness to learn Dutch;
  • It is a plus if you have a network within the field of environmental pollutants.

Wageningen Food Safety Research conducts high-quality independent research into safe and reliable food. Most of our work is commissioned by the Dutch government and our main clients are the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). In addition, we collaborate with many national and international partners in a variety of projects funded among others by the European Commission and the European Food Safety Authority. We are part of Wageningen University & Research (WUR).

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between €4149,- and €6229,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 12).
Additionally, a contract for 32 hours can be discussed. You will initially receive a two year contract, which will be extended to an open-ended contract upon in mutual enthusiasm.
