The Developmental and Educational Psychology Unit of the Institute of Psychology is looking for a highly talented staff member for the position of Associate Professor in the domain of Clinical Developmental Psychology.

The education and research of the Developmental and Educational Psychology section covers a broad range of topics, including neurocognitive and social-emotional development, educational (neuro)science, developmental psychopathology and the diagnosis and treatment of cognitive and social-emotional problems in children and adolescents. We teach Bachelor and Master students about psychodiagnostics and psychotherapy in the field of mental health in children and adolescents (for example Anxiety, ADHD, Autism and Stress). We train students to work in youth mental health care and in (special) education. We work in a team of researchers and lecturers with experience in clinical practice.

Our master programs Child and Adolescent Psychology and School Psychology attract up to 100 students per year. The programs are taught in English and Dutch, with an exception for the teaching of clinical skills for Dutch students.

What will you do?

• Develop, coordinate, and teach BSc and MSc courses (School psychology and/or Child and Adolescent Psychology) and supervise students at different stages of their education (first year tutorials, , Master thesis, Professional internship);
• Continue your independent line of research in the field of developmental psychopathology or clinical developmental psychology, with a preference for clinically relevant research (e.g., prevention, early-intervention and treatment studies);
• Apply for external research funding for furthering independent research line and the research program of the unit;
• Present and publish research results public in peer-reviewed journals, at scientific conferences and other professional meetings;
• Share research results with a wider audience through media and other public outreach;
• Supervise PhD students;
• Participate in organizational tasks;
• Participate in the Dutch Society for Developmental Psychology (VNOP).

The distribution of education vs. research is 60%-40%.

Profile

• Completed a PhD in (clinical) developmental psychology or related discipline;
• Extensive knowledge of psychopathology in youth;
• At least five years of teaching experience at an academic level and particularly teaching of clinical therapeutic skills;
• Clinical experience and/or post-master education is an advantage;
• Evidence of and/or certificate showing basic psychodiagnostics skills (BAPD in Dutch) is an advantage;
• Management experience is an advantage;
• Innovative and creative ideas for relevant research;
• Strong communication, social, organizational, and leadership skills;
• Strong statistical and methodological skills (e.g., familiarity with software for programming and data-analysis like R, Python, O-Tree and SPSS, computational modeling);
• Excellent command of the English language;
• Dutch proficiency is preferable; or willingness to learn Dutch at B1 level within 2 years;
• Contributing to a positive work environment and open science.

What we offer
The appointment is 0.8-1.0 fte; part-time appointment is negotiable. We offer a 12 months position, with the possibility of an extension and permanent appointment, depending on needs, proven suitability and available resources. Salary ranges from € 5,506.- to € 7,362.- gross per month on a full-time basis (pay scale 13 or 14), in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
