Job description

Are you keen to contribute to Food Systems Transformations, leading to improved food and nutrition security for people living in conflict and protracted crises, e.g. in the Horn of Africa? Are you intrigued to work across the Humanitarian-Development-Peace nexus in fragile settings?

We are looking for a Food Systems Resilience expert, to help implement our projects in the Horn of Africa (Sudan, South Sudan, Somaliland), where we work with partners on enhancing Food Systems Resilience in a dynamic, volatile and fragile context, with conflicts and situations of protracted crises.
The selected candidate will support and contribute to the implementation of projects, and support learning and capacity building agendas.
You will contribute to programme management, including planning, coordination and delivery, and report on project progress. You will organise and help facilitate workshops, learning events and training courses, contribute to evidence-based adaptive management and coordinate Communities of Practice and Learning Journeys. You will engage in the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences and in the production of required materials and in the provision of information and assistance to partners. In addition, you will contribute to FSR studies through data processing and analysis/foresight in synergy with current humanitarian data environment.

The selected candidate will work at Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation (WCDI). Our work focuses on sustainable and inclusive food- and ecosystem transformation in Africa, Asia and to a lesser extend Latin America. As Food system resilience advisor, the candidate will have the opportunity to get involved in projects and build strategic partnerships between knowledge institutes, government organisations, civil society organisations, and private companies. WCDI is knowledge partner in the consortia in which we operate. You will be asked to apply relevant knowledge in projects, and to co-create knowledge with our partners. In addition, facilitating learning of professional partners, individuals as well as organisations, is part of the job.

Duty station is Wageningen with travel to countries that participate in WCDI’s portfolio (in particular HoA).

Requirements

  • MSc degree in international development, disaster management, conflict studies or similar field
  • 2 years of working experience, of which at least 1 year in an international environment, preferably in or with partners in the Horn of Africa or other protracted crises areas;
  • Proven experience on conceptualizing and operationalizing food system resilience (e.g. through reports or publications);
  • Affinity with quantitative and qualitative data processing and analysis;
  • Experience in (co-)developing and (co-)delivering professional training, preferably in hybrid settings. Experience to work with online learning environments.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills with a strong ability to work and communicate across boundaries/cultures;
  • Willingness to provide a helping hand wherever needed, if co-facilitation, project management support or data processing
  • An enthusiastic result oriented team player, who is also client oriented and stress resistant;
  • Willingness to travel (short missions);
  • Your English proficiency is excellent (a minimum of CEFR C1 level) and proficiency of spoken and written Arabic is an noteworthy asset; for more information about this proficiency levels, please visit our special language page;

We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between € 2.949,- and € 4.809,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research. Additionally, a contract for 0,8 FTE can be discussed.
