Data Manager, m/f position at European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT)

Job description

A retrospective study of the Inborn Error Working Party (IEWP) focusing on beta-thalassemia needs to be set up, run and finalized within a limited time scale. After designing a study specific CRF, you will use our multi-center web based database system (ProMISe) to create queries and to export data files from the EBMT registry. These files contain the available data from the 25 EBMT centers participating in this specific study. The data must be extracted, requested, collected, checked, and entered based on local information provided by the participating centers. You will be intensively contacting these European centers. Because you are responsible for all data management parts in this study you are a multitasker with excellent communication skills and you have an active attitude. With your technical skills and affinity for programming you are able to prepare the data queries using ProMISe and obtain the final dataset for analysis using SPSS. All actions will be done in close contact with the principle investigator, working party chair, project manager pharma and the IEWP statistician. Additionally, we expect you to contribute in preparing study overviews and presentations used in telephone conferences and face-to-face meetings. As data manager you will work together with experienced Study Coordinators based in the EBMT Data Office Leiden. When necessary, you will support the other study coordinators working in the Data Office in their work.

Requirements

For this job we seek candidates with a Higher Vocational working and thinking level and who have finished an education in one of the (para-) medical directions (e.g. Health sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Human Movement Sciences or Bioinformatics) within the past 5 years. You know the ins and outs of data management. Further you are analytical and have proven affinity with programming. Besides that you have some knowledge of medical terminology, a good command of spoken and written Dutch and English, good administrative skills are necessary. Preferably you followed courses in hematology and SPSS (syntax) during your education. Experience with MS Office, Outlook and Internet is essential, as well as some experience in database management (e.g. in Access / SQL / Excel (macro’s) / SPSS / R). You are highly motivated, flexible and able to meet strict deadlines.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 6 months.

You will be employed on the basis of 36 hour a week. Appointment is for six months. We can offer a very interesting job with the possibility of being reassigned to other projects started up within the stimulating working environment of the EBMT Working Parties. Besides good facilities in the area of education and training, you will be part of an internal working group. Your salary and grading will strongly depend on your qualifications and experiences, max € 2980 (scale 7) / € 3372 (scale 8) gross per month based on a full time position. You will receive an 8% holiday remuneration, a year-end bonus, a pension arrangement with the National Civil Pension Fund, and you may join our collective health insurance policy.

EBMT

The EBMT is a non-profit organisation which was established in 1974 to allow scientists and physicians involved in blood and marrow transplantation to share their experience and develop co-operative studies. Our mission is to foster excellence in science in order to further improve the outcomes of stem cell transplantation and inform all concerned, including patients and their families, about developments in the field. To this end, the Society works to the highest standards to promote all aspects associated with the transplantation of haematopoietic stem cells from all donor sources and donor types including basic and clinical research, education, standardisation, quality control, and accreditation for transplant procedures.
Members of the EBMT are mainly centres active in transplantation of any kind of haematopoietic stem cells or any other organisation or individual involved in the care of donors and recipients of haematopoietic stem cells. The EBMT has offices in Barcelona, Leiden, London and Paris, and currently has 45 members of staff working on behalf of the organisation. The EBMT consist of disease-specific working parties of which 6 are based in the Data Office Leiden. The section Advanced Data Management maintains the European registry containing all stem cell transplantations performed in Europe and provides infrastructures for EBMT Working Party studies.
