We are looking for candidates who can participate in the teaching of bachelor and MSc programmes in the following fields: finance, (quantitative) economics, statistics, and research methods. Mentoring students is also part of the responsibilities, as well as thesis supervision.

The teaching content, teaching load and responsibilities depend on qualifications and interests of the candidate. Depending on interests, experience, and qualifications, a maximum of 30% of the work load will be allocated to research.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:
- a PhD degree or a (research) master in a relevant field of study
- the candidate is an enthusiastic and effective lecturer, has knowledge of didactics and understanding of teaching and assessment methods
- a University Teaching Qualification or willingness to obtain this qualification
- proficiency in English
- experience in (applied) research in a relevant field
- the candidate is enthusiastic, a team player and has excellent communication skills.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 36 months.

The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work experience. Salary starts from a minimum of € 2,588 gross per month (salary scale 10 Dutch Universities) to a maximum of € 4,757 gross per month (salary scale 11) for a full-time position, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. Favorable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants.
The length of the contract is preferably three years, but shorter terms can be discussed as well. The percentage of research time depends on expertise and qualities of the candidate, with a maximum of 30%.

Successful candidates will start 1 January 2018.

Department description
The Department of Economics, Econometrics & Finance is an active and international research group, consisting of approximately 110 people. Members work both in fundamental theoretical research and in applied research. Central research themes are, among others, industrial organisation, (applied) econometrics, banking, ageing and pensions, microfinance, and economic history. Approximately 30% of the Department members are non-Dutch, support staff is used to communicating in English. More than 80% of the PhD students are non-Dutch. Members of the Department have published in a wide range of top journals, such as American Economic Review, Journal of the European Economic Association, Journal of Econometrics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial Economics, RAND Journal of Economics and Review of Economics and Statistics.

The Department is responsible for central courses in two bachelor programmes: the independent BSc programme in Econometrics and Operations Research, and the Economics and Business Economics BSc programme. These are all taught in English. In addition, the Department is directly involved in the MSc programmes in Economics, Econometrics, Operations Research and Actuarial Science, and Finance. The Department also participates in the selective honours programme for BSc students, and the challenging 2-year research master programme for students intending to pursue a PhD.
