Job description

The Dutch research consortium 'Language in Interaction' invites applications for a 3-year postdoctoral position on the topic of magnetoencephalography and tractography applied to language in neurological populations.

We are looking for a postdoctoral candidate with demonstrable experience in analysis of structural imaging and tractography to strengthen our research group. Our group aims at integrating brain measures with high temporal resolution, obtained using magnetoencephalography, with measures of structural connectivity to better understand language function in healthy and neurological populations. Ongoing projects include studying chronic stroke and brain tumour patients.

You will carry out research as a member of the Language Function and Dysfunction group of the Donders Institute and Radboud university medical center under supervision of Dr. Vitória Piai. You will have access to all imaging facilities, including three 3T MRI scanners and an MEG system. You will also have the opportunity to acquire expertise on state-of-the-art electrophysiological techniques.

- demonstrably solid experience with structural MRI techniques and tractography;
- experience with electrophysiology techniques is desirable, but not mandatory;
- a keen interest in patient research, language, and electrophysiology;
- excellent proficiency in written and spoken English.

Department

Dutch Research Consortium 'Language in Interaction'

The Netherlands has an outstanding track record in the language sciences. The research consortium 'Language in Interaction', sponsored by a large grant from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific research (NWO), brings together many of the excellent research groups in the Netherlands with a research programme on the foundations of language. The consortium has representatives from seven universities and one research institute in the Netherlands. These are Radboud University, the Radboud university medical center, the University of Amsterdam, the University of Maastricht, Leiden University, Utrecht University, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Tilburg University, and the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics.
Excellence in the domain of language and related relevant fields of cognition is combined with state-of-the-art research facilities and a research team with ample experience in complex research methods and utilisation. Together, this consortium realises both quality and critical mass for studying human language at a scale not easily found anywhere else in the world.

The position will be embedded in the Donders Centre for Cognition of the Donders Institute. You will be based at both the Donders Centre for Cognition and the Radboud university medical center. Both institutions conduct research in an international setting. English is the lingua franca.
