The Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral researcher in the field of Migration Studies (RIGHTS project . 

The Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) and University Professor Frank Vandenbroucke are currently searching for a two-year postdoctoral research fellow (at 1 FTE) for a project exploring public attitudes towards European-level and national-level social policy. That project is led by Professor Frank Vandenbroucke (UvA Professor), Dr Theresa Kuhn (AISSR-PETGOV and AISSR-Challenges) and Professor Brian Burgoon (AISSR-PETGOV). Central to the project is exploring public support for or opposition to various policy-maker plans to establish pan-European unemployment insurance. We do not know how European taxpayers think about these plans, and which factors affect public opinion on such issues. The postdoctoral researcher will help design and implement a conjoint experiment to explore such opinions and contribute to data analysis and publication of research articles on this topic.

• Designing and implementing a conjoint experiment on public support for European unemployment benefits in the European Union;
• selecting and liaising with survey company;
• publishing single-authored and co-authored articles in highly ranked peer-reviewed journals;
• (possibility of) teaching.

• PhD in political sciences, economics, sociology or related field, completed already or soon to be completed;
• excellent quantitative research skills, especially survey design;
• (ideally) experience with conducting survey experiments, preferably conjoint experiments;
• articles in recognized peer-reviewed journals, either published or, in case of a very recently completed PhD, in an advanced stage of preparation;
• expertise on European integration, social policy and/or support for redistribution;
• excellent English writing and communication skills. Knowledge of Dutch is welcome but not required;
• ability to work independently as well as in a team.

The appointment will be on a temporary basis for the duration of 2 years. The position is full-time (38 hours per week) and will start on 1 January 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The gross monthly salary for this position will be €3,475 to €4,757 gross per month, based on a full-time position of 38 hours per week. The UvA offers a 8% holiday allowance and a 8,3% end-of- year allowance, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research

The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG) of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) is the largest educational and research institution in the social sciences in the Netherlands, and one of the highest-ranked such institutions in Europe.
