A Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) specialist for land monitoring: As a researcher you execute and shape applied research in the domain of SAR remote sensing, with a close link to application domains of agriculture, nature, soils and water, with emphasis on land cover, crop classifications, biomass, vegetation structure, crop yield monitoring, and environmental variables. You will integrate Radar and Optical remote sensing in applications (e.g. with Sentinel 1 and 2), and therefore you will be working closely with other researchers in the field of optical remote sensing and land monitoring, crop yield forecasting specialists, UAV experts, big data analysts, and software engineers, in a data driven and quantitative systems approach. You position your research in an international context, in collaboration with colleagues and international partners. Tasks include a combination of project leadership of smaller to medium-sized projects, project execution (with data, models and remote sensing products), presentation of research results, training, project acquisition together with colleagues and customer consultation.

We are searching an enthusiastic candidate with a broad experience in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) remote sensing for environmental applications, with a broad understanding of environmental monitoring, and different methods of modelling. You have proven experience in land monitoring using SAR satellite imagery, SAR technology and calibration, SAR Processing, SAR Data Evaluation and Modeling, and you are able to process e.g. Sentinel-1 imagery and integrate with Sentinel-2 for land monitoring and other SAR related applications. You have good communication skills, hold preferably a PhD degree in a SAR domain related to environmental monitoring and are fluent in English. You are able to operate in teams with a focus on delivery of results in a timely fashion. You have a drive to learn, and are eager to develop yourself to a senior project leader and experienced project developer. You preferable have an international network, and hold experience in multi-partner international projects in the field of land monitoring.

We offer a temporary position for a period of 2 years. There is a prospect for a permanent position, depending on your job performance and the market conditions. Salary depends on skills and experience, starting with €3,120.00 gross (scale 11) to a maximum of 5,509.00 gross (scale 12) on the basis of a full-time position (36 hours).
