The Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences (SILS), one of the largest institutes of the Faculty of Science, has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral researcher in sensory research.
As postdoc you will work within a large collaborative NWO-funded project ('Chemosense') together with partners at Wageningen University, Leiden University, DSM and Unilever. The Chemosense project entails studying and modeling the relationship between sensory characteristics and advanced chemical analysis of food and taste ingredients. Your task in this project is to develop models for these relationships based on data collected by the partners. These models will need to accommodate nonlinearities and threshold characteristics present in the data using advanced multivariate data analysis and machine learning techniques.
You should have a PhD degree in a relevant field ( for example (bio-) statistics, machine learning, chemometrics or sensometrics) and a solid background in applying data analysis techniques to a variety of chemical and/or sensory data.
The appointment will be on a temporary basis for a period of 1 year and after satisfactory evaluation it will be extended with two more years to a total duration of 3 years.
Based on a full-time appointment (38 hours per week) the gross monthly salary in the first year will be maximal €3475 (scale 10-7). The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable. There are also secondary benefits, such as an 8% holiday allowance per year and an end of year allowance of 8.3%.
