Job description

We are looking for an innovative and dynamic scholar and excellent researcher to join our faculty and lead the Environmental and Natural Resource Economics Group (ENR) within the Section Economics at Wageningen University & Research (0.8 - 1.0 fte), one of the leading universities on food, health and environment.

The ENR Group focuses on the economic aspects of sustainability challenges, and our ambition is to conduct path-breaking research and stimulating education on environmental economics and natural resource management. The current research programme includes three themes: (i) Economics of natural resources, with a focus on food, water and energy; (ii) Economics of climate change and (iii) Economics of pollution management. We are looking for a candidate to strengthen one or more of the following fields: (1) positive/empirical analysis based on observational data, (2) experimental and behavioural research, (3) theory development, and/or (4) interdisciplinary research and methodology.

We seek an internationally recognized researcher with a strong, thematically relevant track record in publications, excellence in teaching, strong leadership and mentoring abilities, and grant fundraising experience. As head of the ENR Group, you will help to accomplish its research ambitions by strengthening our position in national and international networks, by managing the group's internal processes and relations in a constructive and cooperative way, and by strengthening established research lines and bringing in novel ideas. In addition, you will play an active role in ENR education at the undergraduate and graduate level. You will also give new impulses to improve the contents of our courses, our teaching methods, and the coherence of the education programmes in which we take part. You will ensure the group provides a supportive working environment to young and senior academics. Strengthening the acquisition of external funding for research and attracting PhD candidates are key elements of your responsibility.

The present ENR group is a dynamic, collaborative team of young and mid-career researchers who work in the field of environmental and resource economics. The group currently consists of six faculty members and 15 PhD students. The ENR group teaches introductory and advanced courses in environmental and resource economics. Moreover, ENR contributes to programmes in general economics and brings the economic perspective into interdisciplinary courses focussing on core topics in the domain of Wageningen University & Research (WUR), such as food, health and natural resource management. We value interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers from biology/ecology, climate sciences, agronomy, toxicology and others. The group collaborates with academic partners from a broad range of countries, but also with partners from industry, policy and civil society. The current group is efficiently organised and supported by dedicated secretarial, financial and HR advisors. The student community is largely international and the courses of the group are taught in English.
