Functieomschrijving

The Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (jads.nl) is a unique concept in the Netherlands. Data Science can be studied, researched and applied at three different locations by means of Bachelor's, Master's programs and Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) trainee programs, Postdoctoral education, Data Science Centers and integration in existing ecosystems. With this unique cooperation between the Province of North Brabant, the Municipality of  's-Hertogenbosch, Tilburg University and the Eindhoven University of Technology, we are creating a new knowledge infrastructure that allows North Brabant to position itself in the heart of the future. 

Graduate school

The graduate school of JADS trains entrepreneurial and innovative data specialists who are well versed in Data Science and the application thereof in, for example, social and business environments. JADS offers organizations good opportunities to become part of the Data Science ecosystem. The ecosystem of JADS is growing rapidly. Besides the number of partners, the variety of activities jointly organized with the partners is also expanding. In addition, we offer support to data-related starters and continue to build a community. 

Vacancy information

The Jheronymus Academy of Data Science has two vacancies for researchers in the area of data science with the aim to support us in consolidating and extending our data science research and our teaching programs; which are characterized by their high-impact and high-relevance nature.

The postdocs will be working closely with our academic staff on applied yet academic research questions in the realm of data science (ranging from machine learning, AI, personalization, statistics, to (Big) data engineering and processing). In addition, they will co-lecture, work in our entrepreneurial programs with various start-ups and scale-ups on AI and data science. 

The position will include teaching sections in our educational graduate programs, international research collaborations, and participation in the intellectual community at JADS Mariënburg campus in 's-Hertogenbosch.

Functie-eisen

We are looking for data science jack-of-all-trades candidates who enjoy diversity in multi-disciplinary research projects, teaching assignments and who like to work at the crossroads of entrepreneurship and academia. Our adagio is 'learning by doing' through short-cyclic experimental science with measurable effects.

Qualifications

A PhD, PDEng or equivalent degree is requested. In exceptional cases, if you do not have a PhD yet, but are willing to work on a PhD thesis and have graduated with excellent marks, we may also discuss dual appointments, combing teaching/researching with your PhD project.

In addition, successful candidates have a doctoral degree in a relevant technical, social science, or interdisciplinary field such as in statistics, AI, data science, computer science, information management, data engineering or econometrics.

The Data Science postdoc will have teaching and research interests and experience in at least one of the following core areas:
  • Storing and retrieving data (databases);
  • Visualizing and communicating data;
  • Applied machine learning;
  • Privacy,  security, and ethics of data;
  • Experiments and experimentation with data;
  • Very large-scale data mining and analysis;
  • Research design and data analysis;
  • Exploring and analyzing data (applied statistics).

  • Competences

    A record of superior academic or professional performance; the ability to be self-directed with broadly-defined limits on assignments; excellent communication skills, both oral and written; and a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse people in a highly multidisciplinary environment.

    Arbeidsvoorwaarden

    The position involves 32-40 working hours per week. In accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities, the position is classified in salary scale 11 (max 66K) for doctorate candidates. Depending on the knowledge and experience of the employee. We offer a two year position with an evaluation after one year to decide for a 'go' of the second year.

    The starting date for the position is preferably October 1.
