The successful candidate will join a group of technicians in a medical faculty striving to provide the best animal care and professional laboratory support, involving translational scientific research methods for researchers of the Physiology department and the Central Animal Facility.

The responsabilities include:

1. welfare monitoring, pre-, peri- and postoperative care, monitoring of anesthesia

2. assist in and performing of surgical procedures.

3. providing technical support for experiments based on in vivo animal experiments

4. teaching practical skills to researchers and students

5. laboratory procedures and accurate documentation using computer programs.

Completed training as zoological analyst/biotechnician at dutch MBO or HBO level or equivalent.

License of certification as biotechnician (art.13f2 or former art.12 (Wet op Dierproeven)) or equivalent.

Preferrably (but not necessary) experience in working with large animals and/or surgical procedures.

Due to the need to work in an cooperative environment with other specialists: excellent inter-personal communication.

Creativity and flexibility are desirable.

Interest in scientific work and analysis and dedication to the animals is required.

Willing to work in weekend and evening hours (compensation provided)

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.

CARIM

The Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht (CARIM), School for Cardiovascular Diseases, is one of the top institutes for translational cardiovascular research in Europe. It is among the world leaders in the fields of research into vascular and thrombotic disorders and atrial fibrillation as well as translational heart failure research. It has also made important international contributions to molecular imaging in the cardiovascular field.

With an annual budget of approximately 22 mln Euros in 2017, CARIM is one of the largest cardiovascular research institutes in Europe, producing more than 500 scientific articles and approximately 40 PhD dissertations per year.
