We are seeking a highly motivated program developer/researcher interested research & application ideas in the area of autonomous ships. Bringing together academic, industrial and societal organizations with an interest in autonomous ships and forming a common perspective on an autonomous ship roadmap are important elements of this position. Already involved collaborations include AMS (Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions), MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), TU Delft, and various industrial parties. 

A collaborative project between AMS and MIT, called Roboat, has already resulted in several directions for the potential future applications of autonomous ship technology in the canals of Amsterdam. This position focuses on bringing the application of these technologies steps closer to realization, while expanding the range of scientific research activities linked to this project. The consortium development activities of this position will stimulate the link to the work being done at MIT and complementing it from the research side at TU Delft from the logistics perspective. 

The position is for 1 year. The researcher will be based at TU Delft and has the opportunity to work in close collaboration with the AMS Institute in Amsterdam and (international) partners.

Applicants should have the following qualifications:

• An MSc or PhD in an engineering field and interest (and preferably some experience) in transportation;
• Interest in (and preferably experience with) networking activities;
• Very good social and communication skills;
• Experience with and ability to work in teams including academic and industrial partners, interdisciplinary environment with engineers as well as people in other disciplines;
• Interest in contributing to the organization of workshop activities.

Fixed-term contract: one year.

The Department of Maritime and Transport Technology (MTT) studies how to develop, design, build and operate marine, dredging and transport systems and their equipment. New generation transport and marine systems require the further development of the knowledge of the dynamics and the physical processes involved in transport, dredging and marine systems, the logistics of the systems and the interaction between the equipment and control systems.
