Job description

Human milk contains specific health-promoting oligosaccharides. Friesland Campina and Wageningen University & Research will explore the use of E. coli as host organism to produce these human milk oligosaccharides (HMO) from side streams from dairy processing. In this project a metabolic model will be developed that links primary and product metabolism with the aim to optimize yield of product on substrate. To finetune and validate the model, specific metabolomics and transcriptomics analysis will be performed in relation to the fermentation process dynamics. The results of the research will enable Friesland Campina to valorise milk components using new fermentation technologies and will strengthen the position of Wageningen University & Research as a leading partner in fermentation research.
We are looking for a colleague that will contribute to this research project, cooperating in a project team composed of scientists and students from both project partners.
