Job description

The successful appointee will be an inspiring, caring, and collaborative leader with experience of working effectively with corporate connections and capable of fostering community involvement. Together with the Faculty Board, the Dean will be responsible for the Faculty’s teaching and research activities as well as for its operational management.

The successful appointee will have demonstrable ability to articulate a compelling vision for the School that will also forge beneficial partnerships across the wider University, and beyond, thereby further enhancing the international reputation of the School. S/he will determine the School’s strategy and ensures the social and economics relevance of its education and research. S/he will be a visionary leader with a strong international profile who has the experience and drive to develop and deliver the School’s strategic plan together with the Faculty’s Executive Board and Department Heads.

The Dean’s responsibility stretches beyond the Faculty: Together with the Deans from the six other Faculties and two Institutes, united in the College of Deans, the new Dean contributes to and supports interfaculty cooperation as well as the further development of the University as an organisation.

Requirements

With a proven track record as a senior leader and manager, the Dean will be experienced in education and research and will bring to the role a broad international network in science, public sector and industry. Experience working in the Dutch higher education environment, and fluency in the Dutch language, will be an advantage. A non-Dutch candidate should be willing to learn these skills as soon as possible. Fluency in English is essential.

Conditions of employment

The term of a Dean appointment is four years and can be renewed. The appointment is associated with a tenured Full Professor appointment in one of the Departments at the School. The compensation package is competitive relative to European salaries and also comes with additional specific and attractive secondary terms of employment.
