The Human Resources challenges

Erasmus University has worded its very ambitious plans for impact, education, research and operational management in its strategy, which also includes a number of important intentions related to our HR. A top-quality university needs top-quality professionals who can make sure we meet our objectives and who can grow and develop in an organisation that gives them the scope to do so. Relevant themes are talent management, long-term employability, diversity and inclusion, leadership and organisational development.

Diversity & Inclusion: our EUR-wide Diversity Team

We have launched a strategic, EUR-wide programme for Diversity & Inclusion aimed at our education, our students, our research and our HR, which is why we define “diversity” in the broadest sense of the word. Our EUR-wide Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) programme aims to create equal opportunities and an inclusive learning and working environment for all students and staff at Erasmus University.

Due to the broad scope of the programmes, the Diversity Team is positioned in the General Management Directorate. Considering the many projects on Diversity & Inclusion that are connected to HR, we have appointed a Policy Advisor to work on the theme Diversity & Inclusion within the HR Unit. Our Policy Advisor works closely with, and is part of, the D&I Team. Within HR, the Advisor manages the embedding of the D&I theme into wider HR themes, such as career policy and mobility, recruitment & selection and leadership, so we anchor our objectives into D&I into all our HR policy and instruments.

Following the departure of our current Advisor, we are looking for a new colleague who can continue to roll out this subject in the HR Unit jointly with the D&I Teams, with enthusiasm and a determination to deliver.

The HR Unit

Our HR Unit is part of the University Support Centre (USC). The USC is where we have united all the generic support facilities, including HR, at the university.

HR consists of three teams: Policy, Advice and Support; in addition, there are the “HR specials” such as HR Legal, absenteeism case managers and job-to-job supervisors. We also have a Training and Development Platform (TOP). At present, the Policy Team comprises a Head of HR Policy, 3 Senior Policy Officers, 3 Policy Officers, 1 Junior Policy Officer and two trainees. Moreover, we currently have a flexible shell with 2 interim Project Managers and 2 project staff.

The position we are seeking to fill focuses entirely on the theme Diversity & Inclusion within HR. You will join the HR Policy Team and work closely with the central Diversity Team. The HR Policy Team concentrates on preparing and analysing policy, the development of corporate policy frameworks and working out the details, and coordinating, formulated policy in implementation plans. The actual implementation of policy is, in principle, the responsibility of the HR partners and the faculties. Of course, the Head of the team and the Policy Advisors work very closely with the HR Advice Team. The entire policy cycle is based on co-creation. We work extremely closely with the organisation and involve all the relevant stakeholders in the projects and planning process (both at management level and staff level). Our work is project-based, we work with multidisciplinary project groups and coordinate it with various forums. Support levels and stakeholder management are important criteria for the EUR-wide HR policy. The Diversity & Inclusion Policy Advisor reports to the Head of HR Policy.
