Job description

As Assistant Professor of Organisational Design and Development you will are an internationally active researcher in the field of organisational change or organisational design. You will teach courses in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Business Administration and the Master’s specialisation in Organisational Design and Development. You will provide high-quality courses in general management topics and research methods as well as specific courses on practice and process approaches to organisational change, on innovation and/or sociotechnical systems approaches on design. You will be expected to supervise PhD candidates and contribute to the development of ongoing research. As an active researcher you will be expected to obtain funding from governmental, European and private institutions, and to publish regularly in leading international academic journals.

Requirements

  • a PhD degree in Business Administration or a related discipline;
  • proven qualities in contributing to the international, academic debate in the field of Organisational Design and Development, evidenced by a publication record in internationally recognised high-quality organisation science and management journals;
  • demonstrable thorough knowledge of recent theoretical and empirical developments either in the fields of organisational change, innovation, social change regarding CSR or sustainability, or in organisational design in particular socio-technical approaches;
  • an excellent record in academic teaching in the field of Business Administration and proven teaching skills;
  • a Dutch university teaching qualification (BKO) or equivalent;
  • proven ability to collaborate with and inspire a team of professionals;
  • experience in attracting research funds from research councils and other external parties;
  • international experience and an international network;
  • excellent English language skills in oral and written communication.

Conditions of employment

  • employment: 0.8 - 1.0 FTE
  • a maximum gross monthly salary of € 4,852 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 11)
  • the salary is depending on qualifications and experience. Preliminary salary scale 10 may apply
  • in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus
  • term of contract: fixed-term contract for 4 years, with evaluation after 2 years
  • classification in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO): Assistant Professor, Level 2

Nijmegen School of Management
The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher education, focusing on institutional and managerial issues within complex organisations in both the public and private domain. There are seven disciplines within the NSM: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics and Business Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. The NSM strives for a multidisciplinary approach whenever possible. Altogether, the NSM employs 265 FTEs, of whom 75% are academics.

Both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are organised in the NSM’s educational institute. The educational programme is characterised by small-scale teaching and provides a stimulating learning environment with an emphasis on the development of academic skills. The NSM has about 4,000 students. The NSM’s research activities fall under the responsibility of the interdisciplinary Institute for Management Research (IMR). Using the motto ‘creating knowledge for society’, the IMR focuses on academic research into the development, design and effectiveness of the public and private structures that regulate, govern or manage human interactions.

The Department of Business Administration consists of five chair groups: Organizational Design and Development, Marketing, Methods, Strategic Management, and Strategic Human Resource Management. The department is responsible for the BSc programme in Business Administration (including a full track in English) as well as seven specialisations within the MSc programme in Business Administration (all in English). Research and teaching is based on the Nijmegen approach to business administration, characterised by a broad social science orientation, an integrative approach, and a focus on interventions.
