Job description

We offer an exciting opportunity for a talented and ambitious funding specialist and grant writer to provide funding support in an interdisciplinary environment in Data Science. You will be responsible for finding, writing, editing, managing, and reporting on diverse funding applications for diverse research and education projects related to data science across disciplines.

You will identify, assess and prioritize funding opportunities, engage and facilitate members of the UM data science community to respond to opportunities, and to contribute to the writing of responses and to provide critical assessment of proposals in development. You will oversee and manage a wide-ranging portfolio of funding opportunities and funded projects to ensure timely delivery of milestones and deliverables. Finally, you will ensure management reporting and contribute to the further development of research strategy of the Data Science community.

Requirements

  • A Master Degree in Data Science, English, Journalism, Business, Computer Science, or equivalent;
  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing, funding advice, and project management;
  • Knowledge of grant application and administration processes;
  • Broad interest in scientific research and in the research funding process;
  • Proficiency of the English language, both written and oral;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful and professional manner;
  • Willing to acquire new skills and come up with new approaches.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

  • 38 hours per week;
  • Initial 1 year appointment with the possibility to extend the contract;
  • Competitive salary, and will be set in scale 10 or 11 (depending on experience) of the collective labour agreement of the Dutch Universities depending on qualifications and work experience (expected minimum € 2.640 and maximum € 4.852) for a full-time job (38 hours/week). Additional of 8% holiday and an 8.3% year-end allowance;
