Functieomschrijving

Utrecht University is looking for an Assistant Professor in Equine Reproduction. The successful candidate will join a ‘reproduction team’ consisting of five Veterinarians (three other ECAR diplomats), Clinical Assistants, 3 Lab Assistants, a Secretary and a small group of dedicated researchers.

Together we are responsible for examining and/or treating more than 600 mares and 300 stallions per year for a range of conditions that spans the entire of equine reproduction. In particular, we offer a broad range of assisted reproductive technologies, including ovum-pick intracytoplasmic sperm injection, as clinical services. We collect oocytes from more than 300 mares per produce, approximately 1 embryo per mare, thereby generating large numbers of embryos to transfer. In addition, we inseminate more than 500 hundred mare/cycles per season, perform around 250 embryo flushes and transfer more than >250 ICSI embryos.

The appointee will be involved primarily in clinical duties and associated teaching (students, interns and resident training) but will also be expected to conduct applied research and assist with more fundamental projects. After a suitable acclimatization period, the appointee will participate in out-of-hours duties (routine weekend obstetrical emergencies).
