Functieomschrijving

The Department of Sociology is looking for a Senior Lecturer and a Junior Lecturer in Sociology. The position of the Senior Lecturer involves 70% teaching activities and 30% research activities. The position of the Junior lecturer involves 90% teaching activities and 10% training and development activities. 

The Department of Sociology provides teaching in our Bachelor’s degree program Sociology, the one-year Master’s degree program (Sociology: Contemporary Social Problems and the two-year Master’s degree program (Sociology and Social Research). The Department has strong research traditions in a wide range of topics in sociology including cooperation problems, social networks, stratification and inequality, households, and immigration. It is part of the Dutch research school Interuniversity Center for Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS)

Senior Lecturer

The core tasks of the Senior Lecturer in Sociology will be to contribute to the development of teaching in the above mentioned Bachelor’s degree programme and the one-year Master’s degree programme, especially with reference to policy and organisational sociology. The candidate will have a key role in coordinating and further developing the one-year Master’s degree programme.

The prospective candidate should aspire a career focussing on academic teaching and the coordination and development of academic educational programmes, while having affinity with sociological research. Another key responsibility will be maintaining and developing a network of societal partners to facilitate internships and extra-curricular activities of the programmes.

We envision that the research activities for this position focus on improving the educational programmes in terms of content and the effectivity of innovative educational practices.

Junior Lecturer 

The core task of the Junior Lecturer will be to contribute to teaching on different topics and curricula (mainly in the Bachelor’s degree programme and the one-year Master’s degree programme). The candidate will be one of the tutors of the bachelor students and will cooperate in matching and study information activities.

Senior Lecturer

We are looking for someone who:

  • holds a PhD degree in Sociology or a closely related field and has affinity with problem-driven quantitative sociology;
  • has proven and excellent academic teaching skills;
  • has knowledge of policy and organisational sociology;
  • has proven experience in developing and coordinating academic courses;
  • has knowledge of or affinity with developing and coordinating (parts of) an academic curriculum;
  • is able to provide inspiring lectures, has an eye for innovative teaching practices, and can apply his/her own research expertise to teaching, as evidenced by positive teaching assessments;
  • holds a Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or a similar qualification;
  • is fluent in English and in Dutch;
  • is a team player.

Junior Lecturer
We are looking for someone who:
  • holds a Master’s degree or a PhD degree in Sociology or a closely related field;
  • preferably has some experience in teaching in higher education;
  • holds a Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or is willing to acquire this qualification in the near future;
  • is able to co-develop and co-coordinate academic courses;
  • fluent in Dutch and qualified to teach in English (part of the curriculum is in English);
  • is a team player.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

Senior Lecturer

We offer a position (0.8 - 1.0 FTE) for one year. Upon a positive performance the appointment could be followed by a permanent appointment. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between €3,637 and €5,656 (scale 11/12 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) gross per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8 % and a year-end bonus of 8.3 % per year. We offer a pension scheme, (partly paid) parental leave, collective insurance schemes and flexible employment conditions (multiple choice model). Junior Lecturer
We offer a temporary position (0.8 FTE) for two years. Upon a positive performance the appointment could be followed by a period of two years (maximum). The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience  - ranges between €2,709 and €4,274 (scale 10 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) gross per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8 % and a year-end bonus of 8.3 % per year.
