Job description

Research

  • To publish research in outlets of international standing in the field of finance;

  • To develop and collaborate in academic and professional networks in the field of (behavioural) finance and actively participate in international academic conferences;

  • To engage in interdisciplinary collaborations within the law school for a part of the research activities (e.g., linking behavioural finance insights to empirical legal studies such as on new regulations, directives, and legal policy);

  • To actively seek and secure external research funding;

  • To (co-)supervise doctoral research.

Teaching

  • To teach non-specialist courses at the undergraduate level in the general area of financial accounting, management accounting, or (entrepreneurial) finance. An ability to teach more than one field is required;

  • To contribute to the further development of courses. The position involves overall course design and leadership;

  • To supervise bachelor theses.

Requirements

  • The department seeks to employ a highly motivated and proactive candidate who can work independently as well as part of a team;

  • You have strong communication and teaching skills in Dutch and English;

  • You have a PhD degree in a relevant discipline or a PhD near completion;

  • You have demonstrated to have knowledge of modern quantitative methods and techniques;

  • You have a passion for research – as is evident from your list of publications;

  • You are willing and keen to engage and collaborate with legal scholars to apply insights from (behavioural) finance to legal matters;

  • You are able to make links between the profession, legal policy, research, and education.

  • Areas of research include (but are not limited to) behavioural finance, entrepreneurial finance, management accounting, financial management, finance in relation to entry, exit and turnaround strategies.   

Conditions of employment

We offer a one-year fixed term position, with the possibility of renewal/promotion based on need, funding and performance. Salary range from €3,637 to €5,656.- gross per month on a full-time basis (pay scale 11 or 12, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).

The department has sufficient financial resources to fund software, data, and travel.

Leiden University requires teaching staff to obtain the University Teaching Qualification. If the successful applicant does not already possess this qualification or its equivalent, he/ she must be willing to obtain this Qualification within two years.
