Job description

Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.) has a vacancy for a Lecturer in Economics. The Lecturer will perform teaching tasks in (a subset of) the fields of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Labour economics, Econometrics, Economics of the Public Sector, Financial Economics, Law and Economics, or Industrial Economics. You will prepare and teach courses in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes of the School. You will take care of qualitatively good teaching in accordance with the academic and departmental guidelines. Teaching is in English. Furthermore, we expect you to supervise Bachelor and Master theses and other research projects by students.

Requirements

The successful candidate is expected to have a thorough knowledge and skills in teaching Economics, more particularly:

  • a PhD degree in Economics or a related discipline. Candidates without a PhD degree, but with significant academic teaching experience and positive teaching evaluations, are also encouraged to apply;
  • relevant knowledge and skills with teaching in (a subset of) the disciplines: microeconomics, macroeconomics, labour economics, econometrics, economics of the public sector, financial economics, law and economics, or industrial economics;
  • teaching experience in an international academic environment with the proven ability to inspire students from undergraduate to graduate levels, apparent from positive assessments by students and peers;
  • excellent communication and coordination skills;
  • excellent command of spoken and written English.

U.S.E. is also eager to meet with doctorates interested in a part-time teaching position, i.e., combining it with a position as a Postdoc at another institution, in industry, the public sector, consultancy, or with another teaching position.

Conditions of employment

U.S.E. offers a fixed-term appointment for up to 4 years in an international working environment. The contract can range from 0.4 - 0,7 FTE, depending on the preference of the applicant. The gross salary - ranges between €3,637 and €5,656 (scale 11/12 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8 % and a year-end bonus of 8.3 % per year. A favorable tax regime may apply for foreign applicants. We offer a pension scheme, (partly paid) parental leave, collective insurance schemes and flexible employment conditions (multiple choice model).
