The Model Driven Software Engineering section at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is searching for candidates for two fully-funded PhD positions on model-driven engineering and model management in the context of the EU ECSEL project Arrowhead Tools.

Job description

The project Arrowhead Tools addresses engineering methodologies and suitable integrated tool chains, in order to create digitalisation and automation solutions, with the global aim of substantial reduction of the engineering costs. Thus, the Arrowhead Tools vision is to engineer processes and tool chains for efficient and cost-effective digital engineering of high-tech equipment. For the further and wider commercialisation of automation and digitalization services and products, Arrowhead Tool's grand challenge includes efficient engineering of tool chains for digitalisation and automation engineering and management, adapted to existing, and new (IoT and SoS) automation and digitalisation engineering methodologies and tools.

In the Arrowhead Tools project, the candidate will analyze, help manage and improve the multi-disciplinary model-based engineering ecosystems in industrial contexts. The task involves supporting the interoperability of legacy and new tooling. The research will be focussed on model management, model integration, model evolution, and model analytics including model variability in order to improve the efficiency of model development.


Organisation

The research will be conducted in the Model Driven Software Engineering section of the Computer Science department at TU/e. This section consists of two research groups, Formal System Analysis (FSA) and Software Engineering and Technology (SET). The SET group studies techniques to improve the efficiency of software development by means of applying state-of-the-art model driven software engineering. The group has close collaboration with several leading high-tech companies and organizations in the Eindhoven region.  Both candidates will be working in the SET group, with ample opportunities to collaborate with staff, other PhD students, and to co-supervise MSc students relevant to the candidates' research. The candidates are expected to be in close collaboration with and willing to spend some of their time at the industrial partners ASML and Philips.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates that meet the following requirements:
  • A solid background in Computer Science/Software Engineering;
  • Experience in, and enthusiasm for, model-driven engineering and domain specific languages;
  • Preferably affinity with data science and machine learning;
  • Strong programming and software development skills. Experience with the Eclipse ecosystem is a plus;
  • Good communicative skills in English, both in speaking and writing. Candidates should be prepared to prove their English language skills:
  • Experience in research and a publication record will be considered additional advantages.

  • full-time employment as a PhD-candidate for a period of 4 years, with an intermediate evaluation after 9 months;
  • a gross salary of € 2.325 per month in the first year increasing up to €2.972 in the fourth year;
