EDLAB is Maastricht University’s Institute for Education Innovation and is responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of innovative cross-faculty projects and pilots. For our new development activities for teaching staff, we are currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Junior Coordinator who understands the academic arena and can help with our event management.

To support the wide variety of growing activities taking place, we are looking for a Junior Coordinator who will work under the supervision of EDLAB’s Educational Training Developer. We are seeking an active and energetic individual to help organize, advertise, administrate and support these events which will bring you into contact with many different members of the UM community. EDLAB is an open and innovative environment where you will have room to share your own ideas and take ownership of varied tasks including those listed below.

Tasks

  • Liaising with (potential) participants and trainers;
  • Scoping for relevant input for various new activities;
  • Handling the planning, scheduling and registration of a range of activities;
  • Promotion of events via the web and social media;
  • Practical daily support for planned activities;
  • Programme evaluation and follow-up support of events;
  • Monitoring financial spending and billing of departments;

Profile

This role is perfect for a keen, active professional with good organizational and planning skills and the motivation to learn. The Junior Coordinator will be someone who can take on multiple tasks simultaneously and knows how to keep a clear overview of these and plan their work effectively. The Junior Coordinator will be required to communicate frequently with internal staff (faculty coordinators, teaching staff) and external companies (trainers, external locations, etc), so should have good communication skills, preferably in both English and Dutch. They must have a professional manner as a representative of the UM and EDLAB.  

Our new Junior Coordinator will be someone with a good eye for detail, intrinsic drive, unafraid to take initiative and a ‘can do’ attitude.   

We are looking for a candidate with: 

  • Preferably a university (or university of applied sciences) degree;

  • Eagerness to learn;

  • Good organizational and administrative skills;

  • The ability to listen and respond to the requirements of stakeholders;

  • A passion for education;

  • Excellent (written and spoken) communication skills and fluency in English (required) and Dutch (a bonus).

  • The ability to keep an overview of a broad variety of events and related tasks;

  • The ability to plan and prioritize;

  • The ability to work independently, but seeks support from colleagues when appropriate.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: one year, based on a positive evaluation an extension of the appointment is possible.

The position (0,8 FTE) is initially offered for one year and based on a positive evaluation an extension of the appointment is possible.

The salary depends on qualifications and work experience. The salary will be set in scale 8 of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities, with an expected minimum of € 2.579,00 gross and maximum of € 3.445,00 gross (based on a full-time position of 38 hours/week). In addition there is an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end allowance.

EDLAB

EDLAB is Maastricht University’s Institute for Education Innovation and located at the Tapijn Barracks in building X.  Its main aim is to meet the ever-increasing demand of students and staff to develop and effectively implement innovative concepts in education.

The Institute’s main activities are divided into three pillars. Pillar 1 ‘Education Innovation’ involves the coordination of cross-faculty projects and pilots, promoting experimentation and facilitating the implementation of new education concepts. Pillar 2 ‘Excellence Education’ involves the coordination of Maastricht University’s excellence programmes PREMIUM, MaRBLe and Honours+. Pillar 3 ‘Educational Services’ delivers new initiatives and programmes to foster staff development and teacher professionalization.

To promote top quality education, EDLAB has been developing and delivering a range of new Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities for teaching staff as well as further professionalization opportunities for university board members.
