We are seeking a candidate with a strong interest in the field of Clinical- and Psychopharmacological Neuroscience, who has received substantial training in neuroimaging methods (e.g. s/fMRI and/or M/EEG) and connectivity-based analyses.

The primary research aim linked to this post is to bridge basic, clinical, and psychopharmacological research and to develop an independent research program that bridges these domains with regards to higher cognitive functions.

The candidate should have published (as a first author) in peer-reviewed high impact journals on topics related to the research lines within the sections of Neuropsychology and Psychopharmacology (i.e. neuroimaging, neuroplasticity, psychopharmacological interventions on cognitive functions). The candidate has post-doc experience, and preferably been successful in acquiring (personal) research grants. S/he should show strong interest and capacity to engage with modern neuroimaging methods and participate in the development of tools using different neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, DWI, MRS, PET, SPECT, M/EEG) to study healthy and affected brain function as well as neurohealth.

The candidate is expected to show high motivation in the teaching and the coordination of courses in the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience Program (Bachelor and Master) and courses within our Research Master’s Programs in Neuropsychology  and Drug Development and NeuroHealth (in particular executive functions, methods in Neuroscience).

Requirements

• PhD degree in a relevant subject area, potentially with a specialization in Cognitive Neuroscience, Neuropsychology, or Psychopharmacology;
• Some years of post-doc experience following PhD graduation;
• Enthusiastic teacher in various topics in the field of Psychology and preferably demonstrable teaching qualities (a Dutch University Teaching Qualification (UTQ), a similar qualification, or willingness to obtain this qualification;
• High quality and constant level of publications in international, peer-reviewed journals; including record of publications in the Neuroimaging and brain connectivity topics in terms of methods and applications;
• Demonstrable success in acquiring research grants;
• Preferably, experience working in a multidisciplinary environment, with medical doctors, psychologist etc., which allow the candidate to translate theoretical models into clinical practice in the area of Neuropsychology/Clinical Neuroscience.
• Programming skills in MATLAB, R, proficiency using the main Neuroimaging analysis software packages (e.g., Brain Voyager, SPM, FreeSurfer, FSL), and/or EEG analysis (e.g. Vision analyzer).

Tasks

Teaching and coordinating courses at Bachelor- and Master level in Psychology and Neuroscience. • Communicating research findings in high quality scientific journals and at international conferences;
• Contributing to the acquisition of substantial external research funding that strengthens the Department’s research profile;
• Supervising individual student research projects at Bachelor and Master level, and co-supervising PhD students.

Fixed-term contract: 5 years.

Department of Neuropsychology and Psychopharmacology

The department is internationally recognized and has an outstanding track record in Education and Research.

Our Neuropsychological research lines encompass: Lifespan psychology with particular emphasis on perception, action, cognition, learning and their neuroplasticity and rehabilitation of stroke and neurodegenerative diseases.

Our psychopharmacological research focuses on the cognitive, behavioral, and biological effects of various substances, ranging from pharmaceutical to recreational drugs.

We utilize all modern neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, MRS, M/EEG, TMS) as well as behavioral methods.

The Department of Neuropsychology and Psychopharmacology is responsible for two Research Master Programs (Neuropsychology and Drug Development and NeuroHealth) and one Master Program (Neuropsychology), which continuously draw in highly motivated and outstanding national and international students.
