Job description

ITC is now looking to appoint a new Dean with a vision for spatial solutions and the ability to translate it into a strategy to shape the Faculty of the Future. In particular, the Dean will show resourcefulness in diversifying ITC’s funding resources, by going beyond the traditional focus on the global South and including the European landscape of research and institutional cooperation. Together with the Faculty Board, and in consultation with the executive board of the university, the new Dean will manage the faculty and safeguard the quality of education, research and capacity building.

The Dean will be a bridge-builder who will successfully position the Faculty within and outside the university and actively seek opportunities for joint impact-driven initiatives with other faculties and within regional, national and international networks.

The new dean:

    • is a visible and recognised academic leader on the level of full professor in a relevant field for ITC;
    • has a vision related to ITC's mission and the future profile of the faculty and its disciplines;
    • is an advocate of community building across the scientific staff, the support staff and the students;                 
    • is intrinsically motivated to connect with other UT faculties and institutes to co-create and make an impact;
    • has affinity and active experience with ITC’s mission within developing countries;
    • makes a difference in a faculty on the brink of big changes and is willing and capable to make such changes happen with innovative and inspirational approaches;
    • encourages talent development within the faculty and/or as part of university-wide initiatives;
    • has proven leadership skills in several roles within an academic organization, and significant experience in administration and change management;
    • is known for an entrepreneurial and ground-breaking spirit.

HOW TO APPLY

An executive search exercise is being undertaken by Perrett Laver, whose representatives will assist the selection panel to identify the widest possible field of candidates and to assist in the assessment of candidates against the requirements of the role. Applications will be considered by the selection committee on the 27th of May 2019. Perrett Laver will conduct preliminary in-depth discussions with longlisted candidates in the first week of June and the selection committee will then meet to decide on a shortlist of candidates on the 17th of June. These shortlist candidates will subsequently be invited for formal interviews for the position. This will take place on the 1st and 10th of July 2019. Selection of and negotiations with the preferred candidate will take place thereafter.

Conditions of employment

The University of Twente offers an inspiring and challenging international and academic environment. The position offered is on a fulltime basis for a period of four years, with the possibility of one extension. The maximum monthly salary will be € 9.812,-- on the basis of full-time work, with a further supplement of maximum 15 percent. Additionally, the University of Twente offers an attractive package of secondary employment benefits. The salary and benefits are based on the collective labour agreement for Dutch universities and the Dutch law: WNT.
