Job description

The department of Mechanics of Solids, Surfaces & Systems (MS3) of the Faculty of Engineering Technology at the University of Twente covers a research portfolio, focussed on innovation of materials and products with better performance, as well as the improvement of their production processes. Manufacturing requires a profound scientific understanding of the massive amount of data that are collected online, as well as of the physical phenomena governing the machines and the processes. To support smart manufacturing, the collected data have to be aggregated, interpreted and seamlessly integrated into the overall framework. In this light, we invite applications for a full-time position as assistant professor in the area of Physics supported data analysis of materials processing.

THE CHALLENGE

The research within this position will focus on digital twins for manufacturing. By combining physics and data-driven techniques, you will use manufacturing data to analyse and optimize the process itself, improve physics based material models, and schedule maintenance. We seek a person who develops the numerical techniques to relate large data sets and the underlying physics to process and product properties. Education is an important part of the activities of the department. Therefore, you contribute to the teaching program of the MS3 Department at the Bachelor and Master level. The selected candidate will be hosted by the Chair of Applied Mechanics and Data Analysis. Co-operation with adjoining chairs within and outside MS3 related to education and research is highly encouraged.
