Job description

The Brightlands Institute for Supply Chain Innovation -BISCI, Venlo, the Netherlands, invites applicants for a 6 year tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level starting latest September 1, 2019.

Successful candidates have a doctorate in Supply Chain Management or related field and have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching, preferably with 1 - 2 years work post-doctorate experience.

We are looking for a high-potential  and ambitious candidate that is committed to establishing and expanding our new institute. A candidate who excels in research, resulting in knowledge about Next Generation SCM strategies, processes and systems. The candidate will assist the chair in developing training/education to prepare Next Generation SCM professionals and leaders.

Next, the candidate will emphasize on building a network of supply chain industry partners, to test and implement smart and sustainable innovations within supply chain ecosystems.

The candidate has to be open to a maximum of 40% teaching responsibility either at BSc, MSc or executive level.

We are looking for the following in the ideal candidate:

  • A PhD or equivalent advanced degree in Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

  • Commitment and great enthusiasm to establish and expand our new institute.

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research.

  • An active involvement in building a network of supply chain industry partners.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with scientists, corporates and stakeholders in the public sector, at a variety of levels in a collaborative, effective manner.

  • Entrepreneurial, pioneering attitude.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 6 year tenure track.

Salary is competitive, depending on qualifications and work experience, between € 3.637 and € 4.978 gross per month for a fulltime Assistant Professorship (12 monthly payments). On top of this, there is an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus. Applicants could be eligible for a favorable tax treatment (30% rule). 

Contract type:
Candidates are employed temporarily as Assistant Professor (level 2) and agree to specific development goals. Five years into the appointment, or earlier, as soon as the development goals are met, the candidate is promoted to Assistant Professor (level 1) in permanent employment. On the candidate’s request, the decision can be deferred in case of special personal circumstances, such as pregnancy leave, parental leave, or chronic illness.

BISCI

Brightlands Institute for Supply Chain Innovation in Venlo is initiated by Maastricht University School of Business and Economics and the Province of Limburg and will start in Summer 2019. The goal of the institute is to meet the complex and expanding Supply Chain issues, which organizations face. BISCI aims actively at cross-overs between the separate Brightlands campuses (with challenges in the field of data, raw materials, nutrition and health) and the embedding in the existing Supply chain eco system, in the region and far beyond.
