As a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sustainability and Environmental Economics you will be part of the Department of Economics and Business Economics of the Nijmegen School of Management (Radboud University). The position includes both teaching and research tasks. You will conduct high-quality research in the field of sustainability and environmental economics with a strong applied policy focus. Furthermore, you will teach high-quality courses in economics, including a course on Economics and Sustainable Development, and quantitative methods in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Economics. You will also supervise Bachelor’s and Master‘s theses.
The Department of Economics and Business Economics is characterised by its Economics+ profile, which implies that in addition to the core of economics, our research and teaching also takes on board theories of related fields such as political science, psychology and sociology. The Department’s research comprises three themes: Interaction between Institutions and Individuals, Governance and Control in the Network Economy, and Behavioural Decision Making. Within the first theme, sustainability is a central topic of the Global Data Lab, which develops instruments for monitoring and analysing the status and progress of societies (see link below). In addition, researchers at the department study natural capital conversion and the institutional causes of unsustainable economic growth.

Nijmegen School of Management
The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher education, focusing on institutional and managerial issues within complex organisations in both the public and private domains. There are seven disciplines within NSM: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics and Business Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. NSM strives for a multidisciplinary approach where possible. Altogether, NSM employs 265 FTEs, 75% of whom are academics.
Both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes are offered in the seven focus areas, which are organised in NSM’s educational institute. The educational programme is characterised by small-scale teaching and provides a stimulating learning environment with an emphasis on the development of academic skills. NSM currently has approximately 4,500 students. NSM’s research activities fall under the responsibility of the interdisciplinary Institute for Management Research (IMR). Under the motto ‘Creating knowledge for society’, IMR focuses on academic research into the development, design and effectiveness of the public and private structures that regulate, govern or manage human interactions.
The Department of Economics and Business Economics consists of four Chairs: Economic Theory and Policy, International Economics, Finance, and Business Economics. The Department is responsible for the development and quality of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Economics, as well as for the courses in Economics in the other study programmes offered by the faculty.
