The Environment Science group aims to understand and predict both the relative and cumulative impact of anthropogenic stressors on species, including humans. We translate detailed mechanisms into overarching principles, applied in models for future projections. The methods developed and the results obtained are used by governments, agencies, industry and consultancies. We focus on modelling studies and meta-analyses, centred on four themes:

  • prediction of fate, exposure and effects of new chemicals on ecosystems and humans with mass-balance models;
  • quantifying environmental footprints of products, technologies and services with life-

cycle assessment;

  • assessing the impacts of anthropogenic stressors on biodiversity through meta-analyses and species distribution models.
  • assessing climate change mitigation options in a multidisciplinary research setting, also involving the social sciences, and with a focus on energy and industry.

The ES group comprises an enthusiastic and devoted team of excellent scientists who closely collaborate in a flat organisational structure. Our group is housed in the modern and open Huygens Building at Radboud University’s leafy green campus. Employees have a high level of freedom to determine the way they structure their work. We work on the basis of trust and professional integrity in a warm and friendly work environment. We take every employee’s phase in life and career into consideration.
