The Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (FPN) is a dynamic community focused on high quality teaching and research. To maintain excellent teaching quality, the faculty is looking for new colleagues.
For this challenge, the faculty is looking for recently graduated psychologists interested in teaching at a university, with a strong affinity to the academic world. Your activities will include supervision of individual students and of tutorial meetings and practicals.

Job description

As a tutor, you will supervise groups of 10-12 students. You will mainly participate in our bachelor programme, but depending on your expertise, after a while you can run tutorial meetings in the master as well. The topics you teach will partly be determined by your experience, knowledge and interests.

In problem based learning (PBL), the tutor does not behave as a traditional lecturer, but much more as a supervisor. He/she observes and analyzes the group process in the background and makes adjustments, where necessary, by means of questions, examples and advice, and usually not by providing information directly. The tutor challenges the students to gain a deeper understanding of the material and he/she stimulates academic thinking. Additionally, you will be asked to mentor students and/or participate in skills training. Finally, you supervise students in writing bachelor theses.

You can organize your teaching duties over the academic year. The tutorial groups are held at regular times throughout the year. In the bachelor programs, they take place every week on Mondays and Fridays and the other week on Wednesdays. Tutorial meetings in the master programs take place on Tuesday and Thursday. Also you can organise your own Mentorship meetings.

In preparation of your teaching activities, you can participate in the tutor training if necessary. If you have experience with PBL, we explicitly ask you to mention this in your application letter. During your employment, you will have the opportunity to acquire the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ, in Dutch BKO), the didactic proficiency certificate for teaching staff for academia.
