Job description

The appointee will work within the University College Maastricht (UCM), a Liberal Arts and Sciences Honours College of Maastricht University. For organizational purposes, UCM is an integral part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering and works closely together with the other five UM faculties. The day to day management is delegated to the Dean of the College. The Dean will be assisted by a Management Team. The Dean is a full professor with expertise in one of the relevant domains of UCM. The international student body counts around 700 students with more than 45 different nationalities.

Tasks

  • Take responsibility for the management and further development of the teaching and supporting staff of the College.
  • Stimulate and participate within the academic community of students and staff.
  • Participate in teaching and provide academic and educational leadership in the College.
  • Further development within the curriculum of the College and stimulate/initiate educational innovations.
  • Financial management of the College.
  • Maintaining the excellent quality of UCM in general and its educational offerings in particular.

Requirements

  • She or he is community driven and has networking affinity.
  • She or he has extensive management experience.
  • She or he is a full professor, with extensive teaching and management experience, preferably in a Liberal Arts and Sciences setting.
  • She or he is a consummate educator and teacher, she or he should lead by example.
  • Her or his academic and research interests should matching with the academic profile of the college.
  • She or he must have experience with small-scale and intensive teaching to highly motivated students. It is particularly important that she or he champion the nexus between teaching and research as essential to a Liberal Arts and Sciences education, and, in order to guarantee this, be willing to work to place more emphasis on this in the human resources and staff-development policies of the College.
  • She or he must be an advocate for internationalization and the international classroom.
  • She or he must also be able to promote UCM, and liberal arts education in general.

Conditions of employment

Appointment (temporary/permanent) commensurate with experience and record of accomplishment as full professor. Gross salary will be between €5582,- and €9812,- according to scale HGL 1 or HGL 2 (UFO profile “Hoogleraar” level 2 or 1). We offer a balanced remuneration package according to Dutch universities-VSNU guidelines salary scales, elaborate leave hours, end of year bonus and holiday allowance and if applicable favourable 30% tax ruling and moving allowance.
