Assistant Professor of Spanish Linguistics

The Hispanic Studies section of Radboud University is looking for an Assistant Professor of Spanish Linguistics with expertise in language variation through language contact within the Americas. As an assistant professor you will be part of the Hispanic Studies section of the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at the Faculty of Arts and participate in its educational programme on all levels. You will teach within the field of (Spanish) linguistics and you will also teach Spanish as a foreign language to BA students.

You are an inspiring teacher with a strong international research profile, demonstrating a global perspective on current academic and societal developments. You will be teaching BA and MA courses in (Spanish) linguistics (in Spanish, English and Dutch). You will also teach Spanish as a foreign language to BA students; supervise undergraduate students writing their BA or MA theses, participate in educational support activities such as tutoring; and actively contribute to the development of the curriculum. You will be closely involved with the organisation of the Hispanic Studies programme and assist in shaping its future trajectories. Your research will be embedded in the Radboud Centre for Language Studies (CLS). You are a productive and active researcher who conducts empirical research on language variation and publishes in international high impact journals. You will seek external funding and will be active in public engagement activities. You will cooperate with academic staff in research activities and will participate in committees and/or project groups within the Department, CLS or Faculty.

This role will require you to devote 0.5 FTE equivalent of your time to teaching and 0.3 FTE to research activities.

• You hold a PhD in Spanish linguistics with a focus on language variation and language contact within the Americas from a regional, socioeconomical, cultural and/or historical perspective. 
• Your research is based on data collected from native speakers.
• You have a track record of international high-profile  publications.
• You have an international network of contacts in academia and stakeholders in your field and the ambition to fulfil a leadership position in your field.
• You have the ambition to play an active role within CLS.
• You have the ability to attract external research funding.
• You have demonstrable experience in providing university education at different levels and have experience in the supervision of Bachelor's and Master's theses.
• You have experience with teaching Spanish as a second language; you follow relevant innovative didactics in this field.
• You have a formal university teaching qualification (UTQ), or are committed and able to obtain one within two years.
• Spanish is your native language, or you speak Spanish at near-native level.
• You hold a Cambridge Certificate (CPE2 level) in English or equivalent, or you are committed to obtaining this certificate in the near future within 18 months. (Part of your teaching duties will be in English at both BA and MA level.)
• You have an excellent command of the Dutch language, or are willing to master the Dutch language by obtaining C1 level within 18 months.

• It concerns an employment for 0.8 FTE.
• The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,974 and a maximum of €6,181 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience  (salary scale 11 or 12).
• You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
• It concerns a temporary employment for 1.5 years with the prospect of a permanent position after positive evaluation.

The Faculty of Arts is committed to knowledge production with a significant scientific and social impact. You may be asked to give a sample lecture to an audience consisting of staff and students. Interviews will include a presentation of teaching and research plans.
