Job description

We will develop an array of optical technologies harnessing stimulated Brillouin scattering in silicon nitride-based circuits. These include optical frequency combs and RF photonic signal processors. We will explore the combination of silicon nitride with complimentary materials including tellurium oxide and thin film lithium niobate. You'll be stationed at the Nonlinear Nanophotonics chair within the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology at the University of Twente. Under the guidance of Prof. David Marpaung (NLNP), your supervisor, you'll collaborate closely with colleagues in the integrated photonics program.

Requirements

  • You have an enthusiastic and highly motivated research attitude.
  • A MSc in Physics or electrical engineering with a relevant MSc project.
  • You have a solid background in integrated photonics, nonlinear optics or related areas.
  • You have a creative mindset and excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • You have good English writing and presentation skills.

Conditions of employment

  • A full-time position for four years, with a qualifier in the first year.
  • Your salary and associated conditions are in accordance with the collective labour agreement for Dutch universities (CAO-NU).
  • You will receive a gross monthly salary ranging from € 2.770,- (first year) to € 3.539,- (fourth year)
  • There are excellent benefits including a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, and a solid pension scheme.
  • A minimum of 232 leave hours in case of full-time employment based on a formal workweek of 38 hours. A full-time employment in practice means 40 hours a week, therefore resulting in 96 extra leave hours on an annual basis.
  • Free access to sports facilities on campus.
  • You will have a training programme as part of the Twente Graduate School of the University of Twente where you and your supervisors will determine a plan for a suitable education and supervision.

Department

Our group performs research on advanced integrated photonic structures as platforms to enhance and control nonlinear and optomechanical interactions of light with matter. We pursue application in next-generation microwave photonic signal processing systems and advance light sources.

We are part of the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology at the University of Twente, the Netherlands.

High Tech and Human Touch

Join the university of technology that puts people first. Create new possibilities for yourself, your colleagues and society as a whole. Using modern technology and science to drive innovation, change and progress. That’s what it means to work at the University of Twente.
